Siberian Adventures: From Arshan to Baikal

Photo report from the tour "Siberian Adventures: from Arshan to Baikal" from July 9 to 17, 2018.

In the morning we met with all the tour participants who came to us from all over the country. We get acquainted with the group and went to the village of Arshan, which is located at the foot of the Sayan Mountains. On the way to the Tunka Valley, we had a beautiful view of the mountains.

Upon arrival at the place, we checked into a hotel and went for a walk to the Kyngarga River. There are several small waterfalls on this mountain river, we took a walk to the first waterfall and drank water from local thermal springs.

After familiarizing ourselves with local traditions, visiting the Buddhist Shrine and waterfalls, we set off further. Now we had to ride a retro train along the Circum-Baikal Railway. Here we listened to an interesting excursion, took many photos and walked on the shore of Lake Baikal next to a historical architectural monument, also called the "Golden buckle of Russia"

In the evening, we arrived at Port Baikal, which is also the source of the Angara River. We went to Listvyanka, where a bus was already waiting for us to travel to the hotel. The next day, after breakfast, we went on a sightseeing tour to Listvyanka where we  visited the Baikal Museum. There they virtually plunged to the bottom of Lake Baikal, let us meet seals, learn the science of Lake Baikal, its flora and fauna. Then we went to the observation deck, visited the nerpinarium and the market, where there were plenty of souvenirs, fish and much more.

The next morning we set off for the most amazing place on Lake Baikal - Olkhon Island. Arriving there, we had dinner and went to the rock of Shamanka, which is a business card not only of the island itself, but of the whole Baikal. Now, already knowing a lot about the culture of local residents, we can rest and enjoy it's beauties. Tomorrow we will have a very interesting excursion to the north of the island, where we not only would be able to learn to the history of Lake Baikal, its legends and so on, but also can take many beautiful photographs.
